Although only 48 percent of American voters cast their ballots for Democratic Party candidate Al Gore in the last presidential election, fully 84 percent of university professors voted for Gore, says a poll by the Center for the Study of Popular Culture
Well I am supposed to finish up my coursework on July 1st. I think I’m insane. I am taking three hours of Early American Literary Master’s, three hours of independent study on Spenser’s The Faerie Queen, auditing Theory and Application of Dance, auditing aerobics and completing a paper on ritual language. Dance Theory has been cool…I’ve learned a dance from ancient Israel called Mayim and a Russian dance called Korobuska. I already knew the other dances that we went over (schottische, polka, chacha). Now, aerobics class may kill. If it doesn’t, I hear it will make me stronger. In any case, 275 lbs of Italian-Colombian in shoes about to fall apart, moving around for an hour and a half…nuh uh. The first day, the teacher said we were going to do warmups. Those about killed me. The sad part is I know it isn’t really that hard because I used to the same thing with pads on before football practice. ::sigh:: I feel my legs getting stronger already…it’s sad.
We had our May Southern Heritage Conference and Ball last weekend. It was good to see everyone again. Oh, and I met St. Paul.
I keep getting asked the question, “So, what are you reading?” as if I am some authority of books lol. Anyway, I am reading, Mary T. Douglas’s Natural Symbols, Talal Asad’s Genealogies of Religion, Victor Turner’s The Ritual Process, a bunch of stuff by Emerson, Spenser’s The Faerie Queen, Chauvet’s Symbol and Sacrament, and Stanley J. Tambiah’s Culture, Thought, and Social Action. I really do read, even if I never talk about it lol.
Have I been locked in a closet? When I got my Mid-America E-Notes today, it said Blane Conklin was a professor at Mid-America. Where have I been?
Oh man, I couldn’t stop laughing: Grandma Beats Up Airport Security Guards by Bob Wallace
I am seeing a disturbing problem within the Reformed church: doubt. The Reformed faith is riddled with doubt. This goes for the “Shepherdites” and the “Schilderites” too. Are our children in Christ? Why do I see so many parents thinking that their teenagers are conspiracy theorists. Yeah, teenagers sin. But why do I see so many parents thinking their children are a lot worse than they are without evidence? Phooey.
I am trying to catch up on what I have missed in the last couple of weeks…as far as bloggers. Not much really, thankfully. Wyclif’s comment from Scary Gary is quite applicable to what is going on around me:
“If I told you that there is an invisible family, and I belong to it, so I have lawful access to your wife, you would not take my theory seriously. If I told you that there is an invisible Army, and I am a member, so I have lawful access to the local Army base’s armory — or even the commissary — you would regard me as off my rocker. But if I told you that I am a member of the invisible church, though not a member of any local church, would you be tempted to let me take communion? You would be amazed at how many congregations would say ‘yes.’”

How weird. Blogger is messing with my template. In any case, I am back…sorta.
Has it really been that long since I blogged? It’s been a hectic weekend with all sorts of misunderstandings abounding. I have all sorts of things to say, but I don’t know where to start. I guess I’ll just keep my mouth shut.
