I’m Going UnderPosted by Rick on September 2nd, 2003
blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
so i don’t know what’s real and what’s not
always confusing the thoughts in my head
so i can’t trust myself anymore
i’m dying again

Okay, I’m not depressed. I’m just always moved by powerful thoughts, whether I agree with them or not. The above words are how I think when I am depressed, but anyway. It’s 3 AM. I can’t sleep. School starts in two days. I have a ton of work. And I am listening to music. Goth metal. What’s wrong with me? Anyway, Evanesce, although blatantly anti-Christian (They had Wind-Up records pull their album from Christian bookstores), is one such band that produces powerful lyrics. The new video for Going Under is freaky. Definitely not what I should be watching before I sleep. You can check it out on their site.

*scratches head*
Christian bookstores were selling Evanescence’s record to begin with? That sounds kinda sketchy… Maybe it was a smart move on Evanescence’s part. They knew their music didn’t belong there.

Goth metal is depressing music to listen to.
As far as “powerful thoughts,” I just wrote a poem about a friend of mine who has rejected Christ. Unlike you, Rick, I am depressed. It’s not nice stuff, being depressed…
I write good poetry when I’m depressed, though.

i am only mildly depressed at the moment, but even when in this state i love how, for the most part, strong emotions written down always sound cheesy. i love the line in one of the other songs on that album about “crimson regret.” all goth metal albums have to have crimson regret, pain, screaming, and bleeding. hee hee. being sad puts a whole new spin on one’s perspective. most generally a bad one, but sometimes just amusing. being people is such a funny thing.

If it makes you feel any better, I hate Evanescence for all they’re worth.

I think strong emotions written down almost always do sound cheesy. However, I don’t think it’s the same when they’re sung.
And it is funny how when you’re depressed you say weird things. However, I think that when you write or sing at those moments, very often, those lyrics are much closer to how you really feel.

How is Evanescence Goth metal?

Yeah, when I think Goth metal, I think of Ministry and Skinny Puppy. Evanescence sounds like Barry Manilow compared to those bands.

Songs, as well as good medicine gives people that extra “push of power” they need to stop from feeling tiny and small in the grand scheme of things.
I always like to think myself as a grower. Sure, there will always be times I shrink down to where I started, but with good medicine and good music, I can pop right back up emotionally!!

Evanescense is Goth Metal now? Hmmm…
Perhaps you should listen to some Switchblade Symphony or something before you go sounding forth on music. Or anything else you obviously know nothing about.

Ya know, you’re right. I don’t know anything about music. I was just going by what they called themselves.

Honesty is usually found when one finds their own shadow. But, do not let your shadow dictate your life. Follow it and you walk away from the Light of the world. Make your shadow follow “You” as you walk toward and into the Light. There the shadow loses it’s power to sway unto darkness. There in the Light the shadow is no more.
Christ is that Light.
God Bless.
