Okay, here we go again. I can’t fall asleep again. I guess it’s not really that I can’t fall asleep as much as it is that I am just not tired at all. I went to Moscow last night. Rachel and I stayed up at Katherine and Uriah Gunn’s til about 1:30, and then I went back to Isaiah’s to sleep. I talked to Isaiah til somewhere near 2:30. In the morning, I drove back to Kat and Ria’s, and Tim and his friend Jenna picked us up, and we headed back to Spokane. Rachel and I were both a bit tired so we caught an afternoon nap in her living room. I am not sure how long we were asleep. And now, it’s three ay-em, and I’m listening to a Marvin Gaye song about some sort of healing, or something
. One of the hardest things is picking a song or a few songs to fall asleep to. I don’t listen to a whole bunch of slow songs, so I don’t know many good slow songs. I’m tired of the ones I normally listen to.

Musical kids
Rachel’s family is one of the most musical families I’ve ever seen. Everyone over ten can play at least one instrument. Occasionally, I will hear Esther, who is four, messing around on the piano. I can tell she’s playing patterns, listening to what she’s playing, and coming up with her own combinations. However, it was eight year old Nathan who surprised me today. Nathan is the only natural extrovert in the Eyre family, and sometimes I have to wonder whether he’s really an Eyre. Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard him play some simplistic tunes from movies like Lord of the Rings, and I’ve thought, “He should really start taking lessons if he can pick up tunes like that from movies.” Today, Rachel and I were sitting on the couch, and Nathan was sitting in the chair that the Eyres have sitting in front of their piano. Because of the showtunes I had heard him play, I made a comment about Nathan being the future pianist in the family. He looked at me with an excited face and said, “Do you want to hear some Bach?” I laughed and said, “Uhhh…suuure,” not knowing what I was in store for. He played a couple of notes, and I thought, “That’s cute; he’s learned a few notes from Bach.” Of course, after a few seconds both hands were on the piano, and he was playing Toccata and Fugue in D Minor with perfect emotion. Yeah, he’s an Eyre.
