So Rachel is a member in good standing in a Lutheran Church.... and her former church has barred her from the table. It seems to me that if she is forced to make a rather stark choice. The only way she can honor that "barring" from the table is if she agrees with the session that she is still a member of the Presbyterian Church. Oh. I know that's jumping from one ditch into the other, but frankly I'm so gun-shy about discipline (having seen it botched so) that I prefer the one ditch to the other. It's called the Sacrament of Confession/Reconciliation . We confess our sins to the Lord, the Great Physician of our souls and bodies , with the priest alongside us as our witness and our "nurse practitioner" , administering that medicine that the Great Physician has prescribed .
