John McCain

When Remy was over on Monday, we talked briefly about what Republican would run for President in 2008. Remy said his insiders say McCain will be up there. Hmm, he’s between Kerry and Bush, so he has a real chance.

On the one hand, it seems McCain is beoming “more” pro-life, but that doesn’t really say much.

McCain said in Jan. of 2000 that he thought we should prosecute abortion doctors, but not women who get them. (Jan 2000) IN 2000, he also said he’d like to overturn Roe vs. Wade (a step up from saying he wanted it made “irrelevant” but not overturned in 5 months earlier in 1999).

He supports baby-tissue research.

Economically, he’s Reaganish. He’s a military guy (who happened to graduate fifth from bottom in his naval class).

He’s Episcopalian.

Hmmm…he sounds too American to lose.

Politics

Closed Borders: I know this will take flack from some of my old traditionalist readers, but I think the Bible encourages us towards opening our borders. I’ve never really understood why some of my pro-CSA friends are so hell-bent on keeping others out. Yes, we have to keep out terrorists, etc., and I think that each person appreciating their distinct culture can be a great thing. But I think we have to move past that at the same time.

Iraq: Let’s get out as soon as possible, but let’s not cause the deaths of Iraqi Police by not making sure they have proper training. As much as I hate war, we’re there already, and leaving would cause more damage.

Iran/North Korea: Bush! Down boy! I’m not asking for a Kerry type “global test,” but calm down.

Palestine/Israel: Up in the air. Hopefully moving in the right direction.

Eqypt/Jordon/Morocco/etc.: Nice PR move last night.

Nevada: Get rid of Harry Reed. Well, if you’re going to keep a Democrat, he’s not so bad.

California: Move to Canada. Take the Austrian with you.

Northern California: Joining Oregon wouldn’t be that much of a step up. How bout Nevada?

Zell Miller: Move to Nevada.

Bush: Can you really be a fiscal conservative?

Fox commentators: I liked the analogy about Bush being the type of guy to throw his hat over the wall so that he has to go get it.

State of the Union Address

Bush gave a great speech last night. Bringing in the Iraqis was great PR.

I really liked what he had to say about SS reform. Well, I shouldn’t say I really liked it. I mean, it’s much better than what we have now.

Personally, I don’t pay social security. I get to put it into private accounts. I’ve been doing this for about three years, and let me tell you, it can grow really fast.

I don’t understand why the Democrats oppose it. Okay, I do. But they need to chill. If they quit regulating our economy so much, it’ll grow. If it grows, so will those private accounts.

Let’s just be honest. Democrats are anti-American and anti-freedom (I’m starting to hatethe word “freedom” now that it’s like a cool Republican catch-phrase…how bout their anti-trusting).

Rachel was on the phone with Jenny Lusk during the first half of the address, and I’m kinda wondering if Jenny could hear me in the background (”Stupid democrats. Quit trying to take our money!”).
