5-1

Back at CWSC 2001, John Hodges some presented some great lectures on music, art, and beauty. They were some of the best non-Bible lectures I had ever heard at the time. Reminiscing about those lectures made me pull out my Les Miserables CD’s (actually I do that fairly often) that my friend Nathan bought. But this brings up a question.

In the lecture on Les Miserables, Hodges was saying something about “5-1.” I remember the parts of the music he was referring to when he talked about this “5-1″ pattern. As I try to describe this to my musical wife (and other musical people), I get blank stares. Does anyone either have those lectures or remember what he was talking about?

Busy Week

Let’s see, where do I start. Well, yesterday while we were at Wal-mart, I passed out. That was really not fun. I was starting to feel sick, so I sat on a bench while Rick bought the groceries. When he came over after he bought them, I realized I’d fainted. He helped walk me out, and between the glass doors, I passed out again; I guess I just slumped into his chest. When I came to, I was on the handle bars of the cart and Rick was wheeling me out to the car. It took a couple minutes for me to completely regain consciousness. Yikes. Turns out, I need to eat more food. Especially protein. So ever since then, I’ve been making sure I eat meat and cheese and nuts, and I’m feeling better.

Today, I had my very first doctor’s appointment since I got pregnant. It was ever so wonderful to hear the heartbeat! But the most amazing part was SEEING the baby. She/he looks so adorable. Its legs are long and it likes to kick them a lot. It was bouncy and moved all around so we could see all different angles of its cute little body. Its toes and fingers and eyes and nose and everything were so perfect. Beautiful, beautiful baby. We could even SEE the heart beating. How amazing is that?!

After leaving the doctor’s appointment, our car broke down. It ended up being a transmission problem and was way too expensive to fix - not worth it for the kind of shape the car was in, anyway. So we are going to actually give it to the people at the transmission place. We drove a rental car home and we’ll probably start going car shopping tomorrow. Also, if anyone here in Monroe has a car that we could borrow for a few days or so, let us know!

A little tense

When I was in college, there were two Christian Student Fellowship groups, one in Ruston and one in Monroe. The one in Ruston tended to like to talk theology. The one in Monroe liked to goof around. Sometimes there was a bit of tension. Last night I had a dream about it. The following dream is just a dream, and all the following people are not really like they were in my dream.

We were in a large cafeteria, and I moved over to the Tech table to fellowship. Brad was leading them in prayer. It’s some sort of national prayer day for the President.

Greg: Brad? Brad? *points to me*
Rick: Oh, I’m fine. I just wanted to pray with you.
Greg M: Well, you’re really annoying.
Jessie: Sorry, Rick. This is our prayer group.
Rick: I can’t pray with you?
Matt: Get out of here. How many in your group are praying for our President?
BJ: Guys, let’s be nice to him. He just wants to pray.
Matt: Shut up, BJ!
Jessie: Why are you always defending him?
Brad: Sorry, bro. You really are causing a distraction.
