Yesterday, April 30th, was Esther’s birthday. A year ago yesterday, Rachel had just told the session of her church that she couldn’t meet because it might be the last birthday she would get to spend with her for a long time. We miss Esther, and we’ll probably kidnap her one day, but until then, happy belated birthday Esther.

It is interesting how our little girl has played into a couple of church situations. In 2000, she basically didn’t get a birthday party because we were all too busy that Sunday fawning over our new pastor who eventually got kicked out of the PCA. When Rachel’s trial date was initially set for Esther’s birtday last year, all I could think of was, “Not again!!” From now on, any ecclesiastical action against our family must be approved in advance by Esther! And it must be stamped with her official seal on her “Hello Kitty” stationery.
