Blogpost Flashback-November 23, 2001

About the most productive thing I can say today is that I want to get married. I don’t see it happening anytime soon, but I want it to. …I was in Wal-Mart today buying a file cabinet, and I saw a little child, and I was reminded of how much I want to have children…

I wonder wonder wonder about my future. I am so glad that, as Robert Browning wrote, “God’s in His Heaven, all’s right with the world!”

The Administration and the Fury

The Administration and the Fury. is just too funny. If you’ve read The Sound and the Fury, you should get this. If you haven’t just realize that Bush is Benjy in TSATF. Benjy is mildly retarded.

Kyrie’s favorite song

Posted by Rachel in Uncategorized (Tuesday July 26, 2005 at 8:44 pm)

Every time Rick sings Marty Haugen’s “Now the Feast and Celebration” to Kyrie, she goes crazy. He can sing all sorts of other songs, and she won’t move. But as soon as he starts that song, she’s back to dancing. She’s already got good taste.

Yay!

Rick and I got an above ground pool from Wal-mart today and set it up. It’s 12 feet around and 3 feet high. So Hollie, if you want to bring the kids over some afternoon to play in it, you’re more than welcome! Same goes for anyone else; I just thought of that first because Jon & Hollie live closer to us than anyone else I know here.

Just so you know, our coloring in these pics stinks. The correct color of the room is in the third pic.

Well, at least I wasn’t a Fundamentalist

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

Questions for Monrovians

Posted by Rachel in Uncategorized (Saturday July 23, 2005 at 2:13 pm)

1. Is it just me, or does the tap water smell like pond scum? And is it stronger during the summer for some reason? I never noticed the smell during the fall or winter. (It actually reminds me of Minnesota water, so there is a bit of pleasant nostalgia when I smell it.)
2. Is this an average summer, cooler summer, or hot summer? I have nothing to really compare it to. This is my first July living here.
3. Does anyone know of a good swimming place close by, other than a friend’s pool? This has got to be one of the most frustrating things to me. For a hot place, there should be lakes and nice rivers or something. Spokane never even gets horribly hot, and there’s hundreds of natural places to choose from that are close by. We are so close to getting one of those above ground pools.
4. What are good summer activities in Monroe? Most people I know seem to spend most of their time inside where the AC is. That’s basically what I’ve been doing, anyway.

1. Wedding Crashers was really dumb.
2. I’ve only been teaching for two weeks this summer, and I’m ready for a vacation. Two more weeks.
3. This summer teaching schedule is rough. With the exception of watching Friends and working out, all I have time to do is read for my classes and grade papers.
4. We’ve been in bed by ten more often than not.
5. Kyrie definitely has girl parts. They’re clearer than her face on the ultrasound, so I’m sick of people making comments about her being a boy.
6. I’d be really shocked and annoyed if those three parts were really another three parts.
7. I can’t wait to go to Little Rock next month.
8. I wish I had more time to read!
9. Hey, I’ll get to see Nathan tomorrow.
10. I don’t know why I don’t just cut the carpet in Kyrie’s room. It would take 10 minutes.
11. I’d like to go fishing…somewhere cooler.
12. We eat fish a lot, especially salmon.
13. And fruit. Lots of fruit. I love mango smoothies.
14. I don’t understand why people like sugary or carb-filled food. If you’re gonna eat poorly, overload on a steak or chicken…something filled with yummy cholesterol :-D
15. I’d really like to go rafting down the Illinois.
16. Or go on a cruise.
17. Or just go to the beach.
18. To be bitten by a shark…nevermind.
19. I should have enough frequent flyer miles for free tickets to Hawaii by next year.
20. Course we’ll have a baby, so I don’t know how smart it would be to go somewhere where I’d want to be on the beach the whole time.
21. I’m looking forward to mommy and Esther coming down in October.
22. As well as Forrest, Rebekah, and children.
23. And going up to Spokane in December.
24. And Birmingham in January.
25. I’d really like to go to Bristol sometime.
26. Or maybe visit Rachel’s relatives on Lake Erie.
27. I really wonder what Kyrie will look like.
28. Right now she kinda looks like this: :-) -+-< =
29. Especially when she's kicking her mother.
30. When she's not kicking her mother, she looks like this: >:-|-+-<=
31. Wow, I must be really bored.
32. Or delusional.
33. Or maybe I’m just starting to mock those long lists people put on their blogs.
34. Or I’m just lacking creativity and have run out of things to say.
35. Bye.

ultrasound

Posted by Rachel in Uncategorized (Tuesday July 19, 2005 at 1:52 pm)

We’re headed to get another ultrasound in about 45 minutes. This time, I’m bringing a blank tape so it can be recorded. Has anyone else done this (Besides Brad and Adrienne, who gave me the idea)? I think it would be really cool for Kyrie to be able to watch it when she’s older.
