Questions for Monrovians

Posted by Rachel in Uncategorized (Saturday July 23, 2005 at 2:13 pm)

1. Is it just me, or does the tap water smell like pond scum? And is it stronger during the summer for some reason? I never noticed the smell during the fall or winter. (It actually reminds me of Minnesota water, so there is a bit of pleasant nostalgia when I smell it.)
2. Is this an average summer, cooler summer, or hot summer? I have nothing to really compare it to. This is my first July living here.
3. Does anyone know of a good swimming place close by, other than a friend’s pool? This has got to be one of the most frustrating things to me. For a hot place, there should be lakes and nice rivers or something. Spokane never even gets horribly hot, and there’s hundreds of natural places to choose from that are close by. We are so close to getting one of those above ground pools.
4. What are good summer activities in Monroe? Most people I know seem to spend most of their time inside where the AC is. That’s basically what I’ve been doing, anyway.

Did you live in Minnesota? I grew up in Minneapolis.

I think this is a pretty average summer as far as heat goes. I’ve definitely seen hotter. That’s not really much comfort though when you’re pregnant and pretty much hot all the time.

Tap water in Monroe is nasty. But nothing even close to the filth of West Monroe. That stuff comes out of the tap with a brownish color!

I didn’t live there, but I visited Minneapolis when my aunt and uncle lived there. I actually loved it. They live in Benson, MN now.. like 2 or so hours west of the twin cities.

    Oh, ok.

benson is more like 3 hours away. (we’re about 45 mins south.)

i did notice a pond scum smell today as we were driving through the rain. strange…

Amen to that, Hollie…you know how you save money at restaurants by ordering water (or maybe you just enjoy it more)? Don’t do that in West Monroe.

While we were in the hospital (in W.M.) having Lexie we kept wrinkling our nose at HOSPITAL water that always had a yellowish tint of something quite unsterile. Adrienne drew a bath and didn’t want to get in.

  7. Emily Says:

Our Brita filter doesn’t even get rid of the nasty smell, not to mention the gagging metallic taste. I had to start buying gallons of water at Wal-Mart.

After living here my whole life, I believe every summer is the hottest summer ever.

  8. Rick Says:

It probably doesn’t help that you’ve been pregnant for the last two!
