Not all medical professionals lie. Maybe you could get a second opinion? I’m assuming you chose your doctor because you felt at least somewhat comfortable with him/her. I’ve had five babies and my drs knew I’d do just about anything to avoid a c-section. However, I had my last child at 42, and at one point she was breech. She flipped (well before labor), but I was prepared for a c-section should it be necessary. I pray that it is not, but do keep in mind the important thing is getting the baby here, not how she gets here. I’ve been reading about you guys since before you were married. Enjoy your blog immensely and can’t wait to hear about Kyrie’s arrival. May the Lord bless you all richly~

We totally understand that, and if it comes down to the c-section, we are not going to just let the baby stay in there forever.
My point is that doctors and mothers tend to just get impatient and do things that can put the baby at risk.

All babies come out eventually. They don’t stay in there forever! You all are being careful, as is obvious from the amount of knowledge you have about birth. It is wise to question conventional obstetric practice which is mostly geared toward the one baby out of ten who needs a doctor’s help. Just be careful not to make the doctor’s mad at you or my experience is that they will not treat you right should you need their help. Which I am confident you will not
Praying for you and Kyrie in Ohio.

OUR doctor is great. It’s his nurse practitioner who annoyed me.
I didn’t argue with her or anything. I just knew she was regurgitating what she’d been taught.
Part of what she was saying was out of ignorance. Part of it was a scare tactic. I was a bit annoyed because she was assuming that we wouldn’t know what the heck she was talking about or wouldn’t know how to get the knowledge. The medical establishment assumes you’re ignorant.
Please don’t misunderstand me. If you want to use pitocin and epidurals, have fun. But at least know the risk you’re taking. Don’t be ignorant of facts like pitocin will often lead to cesareans and epidurals often lead to episiotomies (and can lead to dural punctures of the spine or paralysis in the mother) and cesareans often lead to lung problems in your child. Understand that when your doctor says your pelvis is too small, it’s probably not. Understand that once you have a cesarean, all your following births don’t have to be cesarians. Understand that laboring on your back is the worst position to labor in; it’s only best for the doctor. Realize that your child is four times more likely to die in a hospital birth than a home birth.
I’m just annoyed at people thinking WE’RE crazy when they haven’t really looked at the facts.

btw, all the posts that say they’re from rachel are really from me (Rick). She’s too busy contracting.

I have the same trouble with my wonderful back-up OB/GYN. His nurse midwives are paranoid and don’t have all the info on homebirth while the Doc is totally for it and considers it a safer option than hospital births. Weird. We had one baby in hospital (because I wasn’t “brave” enough to have it at home…HA! the hospital takes more courage) and one at home which was a safe, happy, beautiful experience which I plan to duplicate in about 7 months with baby three. Plus, hospital food rots and they don’t give you enough calories so that you can nurse your newborn.

Hey guys, I think it really depends on the person honestly…I had to be enduced because after 36 hours of labor I wasn’t progressing and the baby’s heart rate dropped to 40. Normally doctors would have rushed me to a to a csection but mine didn’t, she did everything she could not to. Then I also had an epidural (you know me, I can’t take pain worth anything!!!!!!!!!!hehe) and avoided an episiotomie quite easily. So it depends on the person, and some doctors do know what they’re talking about. My husband has had bad experiences with doctors though so he’d enjoy what you said .:) I hope the baby comes soon-I know you are sooo ready!!!
