Another trip to Spokane

Phew! Another semester finished. So after I gave my last final, we jumped in the car and drove to Oklahoma. It took about seven hours with a stop for dinner and another stop for Kyrie to eat again. Pretty good time. We got in around 9:15.

I didn’t sleep very well and woke up around 8. I hear the alarm going off for Rachel now. So I’m all showered and just waiting for Rachel to shower so we can repack the bags. Our flight leaves at 3:39 and arrives in Spokane at 6:36. Of course, there’s a two hour time change, so it’s longer than it sounds. But the flight from Tulsa is so much easier on us (and I’m sure Kyrie too) that’s it’s almost worth it to drive to Tulsa (even without the $800 savings.

It appears our in-flight movie will be Cinderella Man with Corpse Bride on the way back. Hm. I hear Ryan and Taneisha will be at Rebekah and Forrests too. That will be crazy, with 5 kids ex utero and one on the inside.

Well, I think I’ll go eat some Taco Bueno (yes!).

Miss Chubsy

I just looked it up, and Kyrie’s in the 84th percentile for weight (at 13 lbs.) and in the 74th percentile for height (at 23½”). Not bad at all!

paint job

Kyrie was so wonderfully good for me yesterday that I had a chance to do the ragging all over the dining room. Rick and I agree that it needs one or two more coats of ragging, but I’m happy with where it’s at for now and I’ll probably get around to the extra coats after we return from Spokane (seeing as how I’m running out of time before we leave and I have a million things to do around the house!). It really isn’t hard at all to do the technique, so hopefully I won’t procrastinate finishing like I did last time. Here’s the semi-finished product:

Ick

I don’t know if it’s because it’s the last day of school and students just haven’t had time to bathe, but I have had multiple smelly students come by my office today. I gagged with two of them.

Life and Work and Stuff

sigh

Well, this is the last day of regular classes. Basically, I have five more sets of essays to grade, and then I can go on vacation. No more lesson prep. Just free reading time, visiting with family, worshipping at Salem, and going to many lectures.

Jim Jordan will be teaching Numbers-Joshua tomorrow at AAPC, so I’ll be there for that. Then after my finals, we’ll head to Tulsa. From there we’ll go to Spokane. And after we get home, we’ll be off to Birmingham. Then, back to school to begin another loop in the circle of semesters.

I have thinking a lot about various different social questions for my 101 class next semester…bringing in speakers and debate forums on certain issues. Bringing in HIV positive and homeless people into my classroom. I wanted to do that this semester, but nothing ever worked out.

My office is just barely messy, but I feel disorganized. Too many papers. I have about 1700 manila folders in this room.

I’m kind of a nerd. I got a little depressed on Monday because I realized I couldn’t do all my taxes yet. Yes, I am the nerd that LIKES doing taxes. Truth be told, I probably would have been happier being a business major. I get free classes here after this semester, so I’m even considering working on an MBA.

That’s all I have to say. Well, not really. I have a lot of stuff to say, but I’m not sure I want to say it to you, unknown reader.

home projects

I absolutely love getting caught up in a project. When I was working on Kyrie’s room, I was having the time of my life. I got on a roll and ended up making kitchen curtains right after I made Kyrie’s curtains. Well, it’s project time again! After 9 months of procrastinating, we’re finally finishing our dining room. We started it last February with a red basecoat and left it looking uneven and untouched-up till now. Today we bought more paint and I added another coat, painted the edges near the trim, and am now impatiently waiting for that to dry so that we can apply the topcoat. It’s a deeper red mixed with glaze, and we’ll apply it with the ragging technique. Pictures forthcoming (maybe).
