My little niece was born this morning at 8:12 am PST. I’m still waiting to hear all the stats, but it sounds like she’s big and chubby with some blonde hair. I can’t wait for pictures! Proud parents: Forrest & Rebekah Tucker.
Update: Noelle weighs 9 lbs. 14 oz. and is 24” long!!
Lenten ResolutionsPosted by Rachel on February 23rd, 2006
So Ash Wednesday is just around the corner. Last year I didn’t go to an Ash Wednesday service because I was afraid I’d throw up at the altar. This year, I’m delightfully un-pregnant and looking forward to the service. I’ve been thinking about what to give up and what to take on this Lenten season. I like to think that I am pretty aware of my weaknesses, so this was pretty easy for me to figure out.
What I’m Giving Up
Sugar. I’m an addict. Today, I downed an entire bag of gummy worms, two packages of gummi life savers, and a hollow chocolate bunny. I have no idea why I’m not 200 lbs.
What I’m Taking On
More prayer & Scripture reading. This seems like a really obvious choice, but it’s also the most needed one for me. I’m going to try to match the amount of time spent on the computer with how much time I spend in prayer. I’ll also try to follow a daily lectionary. I’m going to try to stick with this habit well into the Easter season and beyond.
I always look forward to this season even though it’s like traveling through a dark, long tunnel because it really helps me refocus my life. There’s nothing I love better than a fresh start.
American Idol, from my viewPosted by Rick on February 22nd, 2006
Here’s my American Idol breakdown so far.
The girls.
Heather Cox and Stevie Scott should be voted off this week.
Ayla Brown, Becky O’Donohue, Brenna Gethers, Kinnik Sky, Melinda McGhee were all okay.
Katharine McPhee, Lisa Tucker, Paris Bennett are leading the pack. There is an immense amount of talent in this group.
I missed Kellie Pickler and Mandisa last night, but I’ve enjoyed both of them so far. So Katharine McPhee, Lisa Tucker, Paris Bennett, Kellie Pickler, and Mandisa are my top five. The sixth spot can go to anyone.
The guys.
Four guys stand out to me. Chris Daughtry has my favorite voice. Taylor Hicks just has this Ray Charlesness about him. I’m glad Simon changed his mind because this was my one real disagreement with Simon. Ace Young is sexy. Yes, I’m secure enough in my manhood to say that. His voice is pretty good, but he has, as Simon said, the X factor. George Michael was a perfect pick for him this week. Simon said Elliot Yamin had potential to be the best male vocalist American Idol has ever had. I don’t think he’s there yet, but we’ll just have to watch him.
Kevin Covais and Patrick Hall round out my top six, but I’m not really all that impressed with them. The rest of the guys should just pack their bags.
Katharine McPhee, Paris Bennett, Ace Young, and Chris Daughtry are my personal top four.

Well, this site doesn’t think too highly of RedsPosted by Rick on February 22nd, 2006

Reds are motivated by POWER, seek productivity, and
need to look good to others. Simply stated,
REDS want their own way. They like to be in
the drivers seat and willingly pay the price
to be in a leadership role. REDS value
whatever gets them ahead in life, whether it
be at work, school, or in their personal
relationships. What REDS value, they get
done. They are often workaholics. They will,
however, resist being forced to do anything
that doesnt interest them.
Reds need to appear knowledgeable. They crave
approval from others for their intelligence
and insight. They want to be respected even
more than they want to be loved. They want to
be admired for their logical, practical
minds. REDS are confident, proactive,
visionary, and can be arrogant, selfish, and
insensitive. When you deal with a RED, be
precise, factual, and direct.

Question for MommiesPosted by Rachel on February 22nd, 2006
OK, I’m getting curious about something. I have noticed that a lot of moms start feeding their babies solids before they’re 6 months old. I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but I’m wondering what your reasons are. Slow weight gain? Not sleeping through the night? Just eager to start them on other foods? I know that exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for at least the first 6 months, so I am just trying to figure out the benefits of starting solids earlier. Answer away!
wintry weatherPosted by Rachel on February 21st, 2006
Just a couple days after I took that picture of the daffodils, our temperature plummeted into the 30’s. Brrr! It looks like there’s a nationwide coldfront that even Louisiana couldn’t dodge. I am so looking forward to the warm weather coming back. Spring! I want SPRING!

These pictures might give a better idea of the color of Kyrie’s bedroom walls.
