Bad Vision. Bad.

I had an eye appointment today. Eye exams are of the devil. They remind me of how horribly blind I am. They shoot little puffs of air into my eyeballs. They flash a tiny, bright light right into my pupils. I don’t like it. Besides, I get really nervous during tests, and I feel really embarrassed that I can’t read the tiniest line on the chart (nowhere close to that line, in fact). I hate when the optometrist flashes between lense 1 and 2 a million times and you have to decide which one looks better (they all look the same!! AHH!). I’m a dork. Anyway, I got a new prescription and it’s confirmed that I’m blind as a bat and my new contacts should be arriving next week. So that’s good. The End.

The poem nobody knew was lost

The 86-year-old Robert Frost was supposed to read this poem at JFK’s Inauguration. The sun’s reflection off the paper blinded Frost, who decided to instead recite another poem. This poem was a footnote in history until last week. Here’s the story.

*Groan* again

Bush Eases Environmental Rules on Gasoline Honestly, are Americans that selfish? Drive less if you don’t want to spend so much money. Our gas prices are cheap compared to Europe, or even Canada.

Signs of a Music Minister Ego Attack

10. I get so tired out writing out orchestrations for all 110 musicians in my string section, don’t you?

9. I find that the best way to build community among the members of my choir is to play softball together – so I broke the choir into 15 teams of 20 people each and we play each other several times a week.

8. This may not work for everybody, but the last time the Pope and I were discussing this issue, we decided the best way to handle it was . . .

7. It’s ironic, but now that my church has given me a six-figure salary, I find tithing even more joyful.

6. I liked my job so much better when it was just me and a few volunteers. Now that I have 17 full-time assistants, it’s just about to do me in.

5. Can you help me with a problem? My church wants to name the new $6 million music wing after me. How do you handle all the praise and adoration your church heaps upon you?

4. I’ve found that running 20 miles before I have my three-hour quiet time really helps me have the energy to cook my wife breakfast and get the kids ready for school.

3. My children’s choir was going to do Bach’s St. Matthew Passion for VBS, but the kids felt it lacked sufficient gravitas to sustain the moment.

2. Ever since my worship CD came out all I do is sign autographs and pose for pictures . . . there’s never any time for the little people who have meant so much to me on my meteoric rise to the pinnacle of my profession.

Garage sale

Today I sold almost $70 worth of stuff at the garage sale. I’m satisfied with that.

Yesterday we put up signs all over town. Then it poured rain and all the words melted off the signs, so more signs had to be made and put up at nearly midnight. I think that might have been one reason for the smaller number of garage salers who came, but oh well. Today there was not a cloud in the sky, and I ended up with a pretty good sunburn.

I got up at 4:30 am and drove over to Hollie’s to set things up. Everything was ready at 6 am. We finished up close to 1 pm. Then we went out to lunch at El Chile Verde. Then I went home and crashed. I was so tired because I’d only had like 2 hours of sleep last night. I had a good 3 hour nap.

All in all, it was a lot of fun!

He’s not in Kansas anymore

Speaking of AMiA, Dave Hope, former bass player and founding member of Kansas, was ordained an Anglican priest recently.

A Child Shall Lead Them

When we were at the AMiA Winter Conference last January, they showed a video about how 8-year-old Caela McCarthy has raised over $23,000 for orphans in Rwanda. Ironically, as I was watching the video, Rachel was sitting with Caela’s mom, feeding their children, so she didn’t get to see the video.

The Real Inconvenient Truth takes Gore’s new film to task.

I think it’s pretty sick that a guy would try to sell his 18 month old daughter to make home improvements. But I think it’s kinda funny that three two year olds made a nap time escape from a daycare. Fortunately, a neighbor saw them.

I hope justice is found with the Duke rape case. The news makes it too easy to not act on injustice. Ya know, the whole Low Action Information Ratio (LIAR). So pray.

I wonder who will be in the New Orleans mayoral runoff.

The Dixie Chicks’ new video Not Ready to Make Nice is about the group’s frustration about being taken off many stations’ playlists after the lead singer criticized President Bush. . The lyrics are below:
