Spokane is Moving UpPosted by Rachel on May 24th, 2006
A brand new Sonic Drive-In just opened here in Spokane. It’s the first Sonic ever in Washington state. Before this one, the closest Sonic was in Boise, ID. Spokane just got that much cooler.

Kyrie gobbled up her squash just as fast as I could get it in her mouth (and in the event that I was taking too long to get the spoon into her mouth, she grabbed the spoon and shoved it in herself). I moved on to peas, and I am not getting the same response. She makes horrible faces and even gags. Her uncle Forrest is proud of her (peas aren’t his favorite, either), but Papa is pushing for the healthy veggies. We’ll struggle through peas until we’re ready for a new solid. Carrots are next on the menu. Overall, she’s doing wonderfully with the transition into eating real food. I can’t believe how grown-up she’s getting. sigh
Now that Kyrie is over the worst with her first little toofie, I’m starting to have some pain from my wisdom teeth that are slowly becoming impacted. Orajel and Tylenol are helping me cope, but I know I eventually need to get these silly things removed. I totally understand why Kyrie would fuss over cutting a tooth. This kind of pain is just not cool.
Kyrie cut her first tooth today (bottom right). It’s kind of hard to see in the picture, but it’s there; I promise!
This day, 26 years ago, I was baptized.
This day, 4 years ago, Rachel and I kissed for the first time.
Kyrie started solids.
Here’s Kyrie playing with her friend, Bella.
Rick wearing Timothy’s Batman mask (ooo, sexy).
David & Kyrie playing on the stairs.
My big girl.
My grumpy girl.
Beautiful baby sister, Esther.
Super cute nephew, David.
Forrest playing a very enthusiastic game of badminton.
Kyrie taking her first bites of solid food (yummy squash); she loved it. Unfortunately we didn’t get a good picture, but oh well.
So Rachel and Kyrie are in bed, and I’m winding down. It was hot in Spokane today…close to 90 degrees. It doesn’t sound so hot to someone who lives in Louisiana, but no one has A/C up here. So it was icky.
We worshipped at Christ the King Anglican (AC Network) yesterday. It was a pleasant service. It was blended, but thoughtfully so. We’ll be at Salem next week.
We went to Manitoa after that where I demolished everyone in frisbee golf (as usual). Then we came home and watch Proof. I really like the roles that Gwyneth Paltrow picks.
This morning, we were treated to an anniversary breakfast. It was a disaster because Kyrie was fussing, but the grub was great. The portions were huge. I ended up skipping lunch, delaying supper as long as my wife would let me, and then only finishing half of my meal. We went to the Cathay Inn, the first place Rachel and I ever ate together (along with Evie, Isaiah, and Jon “Creepy” Sutton [sorry, Jon]). F and R watched K-fuss (who quit fussing after some Baby Tylenol for her teeth).
Then we went back to F and R’s to watch “Mean Girls.” Hopefully Matthew wasn’t a nerd and taped 24.
So my three-year-old nephew, Timothy, has more of the Anglican BCP memorized than I do. In fact, he’s led the family in the Close of Day family devotions…from memory. Anyway, today he cracked me up because as we were leaving Costco, he called Rebekah was “a faithful minister of kids,” and my wife was called “a faithful minister of Costco.” It took us a second to figure out where he was getting this, but then we realized he was getting it from “a faithful minister of Word and Sacrament” in the Prayers of the Church.
We’ve had a lot going on since we flew in on Wednesday! As Rick already mentioned, Kyrie is now pulling herself up to stand and has begun walking as she holds on to couches, the bottom step of the stairs, boxes, etc. She’s crawling like a pro and keeping me on my toes. She’s been really fussy the past couple of days with some very stubborn gums reluctant to let a tooth come through. I can see the tooth beneath the surface, but it hasn’t cut yet. Poor girl also got a mild sunburn yesterday, but some aloe vera gel took care of it. She had a little case of the sniffles but that also seems to have subsided. She’s getting some much needed rest right now.
It’s our 2nd anniversary today. We went out to breakfast with Rebekah and Forrest and the kids, and we’re planning a quiet evening together at Cathay Inn (very good Chinese) later. It’s in the mid-80’s and feels just like summer. It’s a beautiful day.
Since being here, we’ve gotten to see lots of family and friends. Every day we’ve had something going on. I’m kind of enjoying sitting here in my jammies and typing away…
But I think I’ll go read blogs now. More later.
So Kyrie started pulling herself up to stand on Monday. She’s been cruising a bit. She tried to climb the stairs on Wednesday and then again today. Fortunately, she can only get one leg up on the first step because she’s too short. Heh.
