Back to the Symphony

I’m planning on returning to the Monroe Symphony Orchestra this fall. I enjoyed a full year of concerts from 2004-2005, but after Kyrie came (and she was born about 2 weeks before the 05-06 season), I decided that it’d be best to get settled into life with a baby and not worry about rehearsals and all that. But now that Kyrie is getting more independent and can definitely stay away from me for more than 2 hours without needing nursed, I feel ready to go back and play again. It’ll be a good time for Papa & Kyrie bonding, and for me to just get out once in a while. Plus, the extra money is nice. Rick is encouraging me to save up for a computer with my earnings, but I’m tempted to just let it sit in a savings account instead. I’m excited about having a reason to play my violin again & not let myself get all rusty.

I also kinda want to teach violin, even though I can only handle it in small amounts. And if I do it at all, I want to do it independently, where I can teach from my home and set my own hours, charge my own rate, etc. The problem is that not very many people in the Monroe area seem very interested in learning something like the violin, unless it’s fiddling, which I don’t teach. I think that if we ever were to end up back in Spokane, I could really get a good thing going (I actually had several students and taught two classes on top of that before I was married). Oh, and lastly, if I do decide to accept students again, I want to keep ‘em younger, so our attention spans match a little better. I seriously can’t teach more than a 30 minute lesson.

Just random thoughts for the day.

RTS-Orlando fun

So my plane doesn’t leave for another 4.5 hours, so I am chilling in the RTS-Orlando library. So let’s have some fun:

1. Randomly pick a song from your music library.
2. Find the lyrics for the first four verses/chorus.
3. Go to Google translation and translate the lyrics from English into German.
4. Take the new German lyrics and translate them into French.
5. Take the new French lyrics and translate them into English.
6. Post the NEW English lyrics and have people guess the original song.

A conversation between three-year-olds

Timothy, 3, and cousin Dylan, almost 4, have a conversation on the phone. It goes something like this:

T: “You have a coconut in your head.”
D: “We have worms in our garden!”
T: “We have worms in our garden!”
D: “We have worms in our garden!”
T: “I like worms!”
D: “Do you have tomatoes in your garden?”
T: “Dirt!”
D: “...”
T: “I put a worm on the grass.”
D: “I put a worm on the sidewalk.”
T: “You’re a coconut!”

Update

I should have mentioned this days ago, but my grandma is doing much better and is in a nursing home right now. She should only be there for about 2 weeks, so things are looking good. She’s mentally sharp again, so whether her confusion was a reaction to the morphine or the general anesthesia, it’s all out of her system now.

how did I survive life without a child?

Kyrie took a 3 hour nap today, which is not very common, but not unheard of. Towards the end of that nap, I was really hoping she’d get up because I needed to spend time with her! I was getting quite bored. She was also good enough to fall asleep around 9:30 tonight, and I’m not even close to ready for bed (she slept in till almost noon this morning, and so did I…yeah, aren’t all you moms jealous?) so I’m here, blogging about her sleeping habits and eating ice cream with chocolate syrup. I really should stop eating sweets.
Anyway, my point is, I don’t seem to know what to do with myself anymore when I don’t have Kyrie with me. She is getting so fun. She’s really interactive and can join in when I play with her. We were bouncing around on the bed and she was giggling up a storm earlier. She said “mama” a whole bunch to me. She also is starting to say “hi” (though it sounds more southernish, like “haaa”). She’s as beautiful as could be.

Father’s Day Fun

Well, it couldn’t be very fun without Rick, the father of my child, but we still had a good day. We had enchilada casserole for lunch and steak a couple hours later…and then I had ice cream with strawberry syrup and a bottle of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and half a bottle of Smirnoff Twisted Green Apple, and two popsicles and a piece of pie with vanilla ice cream…and then a little more steak and now I’m stuffed. I’m anxious for Rick to get back here. He went to an Eastern Orthodox service this morning. It sounded really fascinating. I’m sure he’ll probably post about it eventually, but I just gotta say, 61 pages of sung liturgy! Plus, the congregation stood most of the time, and when they sat, it was on the floor. There were even times where they prostrated themselves. I’m quite interested in visiting a service myself sometime.

Here’s the update on Kyrie’s solids feeding:
She likes squash
She hates peas
She hates carrots
She hates bananas
She hates green beans
She dislikes watermelon
She really wants to try a popsicle but her mommy won’t let her

She’s still exclusively nursing. From time to time, I offer her solids, but I usually get a response with gagging and spitting out. I’m not rushing anything…she’s doing fine without solids anyway.

She’s got one tooth still. I really think she’s working on a second.

The end, for now.

I’ve been meaning to post these for a while…

Kyrie got her toenails polished for the first time last Wednesday.

And she saw a puppy for the first time on Thursday.

Sad Rachel

It feels very lonely to not have Rick here, especially at night. It makes me feel a bit glum. That, along with worry over my grandma’s health, is bothering me right now. sigh I just feel a general lack of motivation for anything, including going to bed. I am glad, however, that Rick made it in safely without any hurricane getting in the way. He just left this morning, and I’m already eager for him to come back.

If you want to feel even more sorry for me, I got a burn from the oven on Sunday and it’s still really painful. I’m not sure if it’s a 2nd or 3rd degree burn, but the skin is peeled and now it’s just nasty and a good portion of my forearm just feels swollen and sore.

Kyrie was grumpy today. I think she is working on tooth #2. I gave her a dose of tylenol and sent her to bed. She’s sleeping well now, but if this tooth is anything like the last one, she won’t be sleeping through the night.

I should finish off this post before I get everyone else depressed.
