Sorry to even mention his name, Nathan.

There is a debate going on whether or not to name a building at LSU for General William T. Sherman, Union general and LSU’s first President. This is worth a read.

Another tooth

Kyrie cut her second tooth (lower left) last Tuesday. Now she must be working on the top ones or something…she’s been almost impossible the last few days. She was great in church today, though. I juggled between her sippy cup, cheerios, and a stuffed toy (and handing her to papa here and there) to keep her happy through the LONG sermon. :)

Hot…Not Good

I am so not enjoying the weather lately. I hate to gripe (okay, lately I’ve been loving it), but it really seems as though God never intended for man to live in Louisiana. I am homesick & trying my very best to avoid heat stroke. My poor little girl had hot, pink cheeks from just 5 minutes of riding in the backseat of our car. It has AC, but it doesn’t reach back there very well, so we bought a battery-operated fan at Wal-Mart. It helped a little. My cheerful side has “gone garver,” as they say…you may see it returning when we get a little rain, or something.

9 month well-check

I’m not sure how much I trust those nurses that weigh & measure. It was actually kind of hilarious at Kyrie’s well-check yesterday. The nurse wasn’t paying much attention and accidentally read 19 lbs as 29 lbs. Rick just about flipped when she casually said “29 lbs 14 oz.” His “WHAT?!” prompted her to look again and she saw that in fact, Kyrie was 19 lbs. 14 oz. That means that in the span of 3 months, Kyrie has only gained 6 ounces. But she’s still above average, so I’m not worrying. Also, the nurse measured her very carelessly and wrote down that she was 26” long. HA. So she’s shrunk an inch since her 6 month appointment? I don’t think so. Thankfully another nurse noticed and came to re-measure her. 27.75 inches is a little more like it…so here’s what they concluded:

19 lbs. 14 oz (around the 60th percentile)
27.75 inches (around the 50th percentile)

So yeah, just about right. My once big girl is becoming closer to average, which is okay.

They also took her hemoglobin. It’s 12.2, which is excellent.

Kyrie’s eating food!

Since we’ve gotten back into Monroe, Kyrie’s been hanging out with her buddy Finn, and I guess has decided that it’s cool to eat solids now. She’s had some of his Gerber Puffs (sweet potato) and loves them, and has snacked on Cheerios as well. I’m going to give baby oatmeal a try sometime soon. She seems to have taken to finger foods (foods that she can self-feed) so much better than baby food. Independent streak, I’m thinking.

Paris Je T’aime

So I just found a trailer to one of the new movies our buddy Eli is in. It’s the one with Emily Mortimer, Nick Nolte, Natalie Portman, Steve Buschemi, Gerard Depardieu, and Elijah Wood. It has segments directed by Depardieu, the Coen Bros, Wes Craven, Tom Tykwer (Run, Lola, Run), and Gus van Sant (Good Will Hunting). Eli is in the segment called “Le Marais” directed by Gus van Sant. If you watch this trailer, he turns his head 58 seconds into it, but don’t blink because he’s gone by second 60.

Back home

Well, we’re back in Monroe. Just about everything has gone wrong since then. The worst thing (though it’s debatable considering our week) is that my Summer II class was cancelled on Friday due to low enrollment. Now, if they had cancelled it on Wednesday, perhaps we could have stayed another 5-6 weeks in Spokane. sigh We probably won’t be around much til Tuesday or Wednesday.

O.P.P.

Rather than save other people’s posts in my bloglines til I get home, I will go ahead and post them here to share them.
