My walking girl

Okay, so Kyrie can walk the across the entire length of our church, which I found out because she wouldn’t let us hold her today without whining…unless there was music, and she was entertained by her singing. I have seen way too many disobedient kids in worship (like one that took her toy shopping cart up by the altar or the one that kept playing with a chain that was keeping an altar rail closed), so I don’t want her to develop any bad habits, but I also want her to be in worship. Anyone have any tips on keeping your kids still (besides food, which works pretty well)?

Oh, FYI, after communion today, I was talking about “Jesus” being in the bread and the wine, and Kyrie goes, “Jesus.” Before communion, I always take her to the back of the church to talk to her about Jesus in the stained glass window (she’s way more interested in the cow in the manger; oh well). It was too cute…a total fluke; she was just repeating what I said, but kinda cool.

Just for Fun…

I kept searching for photos of Kyrie for this celebrity look-alike thing…it was coming up with Patrick Swayze and a bunch of Asian people…on one search, the top three results were all Asian girls. Weird. Anyway, these were actually the most flattering results.

Try to overlook the bruise on her forehead…I still thought this was a cute one.

My Dear Family

Kyrie is a pro walker now, though she still isn’t great at pulling herself up without the use of a couch or something. I’ve seen her walk from the gate at the kitchen, through the dining room and living room, down a hall past the bathroom, and into our bedroom. That’s just scary to me. Not to mention that she can now RUN…which is pretty cute when she’s running from mama, but scary when she is running from papa. She can’t figure out how to walk with her shoes very well, probably because they’re too long for her feet (though not thick enough for her feet!).

I noticed last week when we were at Jon and Hollie’s and Dora was on the TV that she really isn’t that interested in cartoons (she doesn’t watch any at home)...or maybe she just isn’t into Dora. She seems to like jingles and kids (something like Barney would probably appeal to her). She loves kids IRL too.

As for me, I have been working 10-14 hours, 7 days a week, unfortunately, and I’m still barely making deadlines. Hopefully that will slow down by mid-September. School starts Monday, and I have prep mostly done for the first week, though I still have to do a bit of research for my new 203 class…though I think we’re just going over Genesis the first week. Well, I should go.

Kyrie’s New Shoes

Now that she’s walking, Kyrie’s got some cute tennis shoes. But she has more trouble walking with them on, so I’ll only put them on when we go out. Still, aren’t they adorable?

Old fries

So the other day we went to McDonald’s before going to Jon and Hollie’s to drink pina coladas, eat ice cream, and play cards. Upon arriving home, Rachel sees the bag of fries she left in the car (on a nice 90 degree Louisiana night).

Rachel: Ooo, I still have some left.
Rick: That’s disgusting.
Rachel: You’ve seen “Supersize Me.” They’re fine.

If anyone has ever seen the special features, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

book thing

Rachel Wilhelm tagged me, so I guess I have to do this…

ONE BOOK THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: 1984…it can disturb a young teen.

ONE BOOK THAT I HAVE READ MORE THAN ONCE: Alas, Babylon (dystopia theme already…)

ONE BOOK I WANT ON A DESERT ISLAND: The Complete Poetry of John Donne

ONE BOOK THAT MADE ME LAUGH: Dere Mr. President (ed. Hannibal Coons)

ONE BOOK THAT MADE ME CRY: “Lord of the Flies” (to stay with the dystopia theme). I dunno, when Piggy dies, I just lose it

ONE BOOK I WISH HAD BEEN WRITTEN: Crafty Jesus: Biblical Deception in a Postmodern World by Thomas Hilleke and Rick Capezza

ONE BOOK I WISH HAD NEVER BEEN WRITTEN: The DaVinci Code…zzzz

ONE BOOK I AM CURRENTLY READING: Uh, Luther’s Works…volumes 1-55, heh

ONE BOOK I HAVE BEEN MEANING TO READ: Fast Food Nation…page 18 after 3 months…must finish within two the next couple of weeks for work

ONE CLASSIC BOOK THAT MADE ME THINK: “The Temple” by George Herbert

ONE MODERN BOOK THAT MADE ME THINK: Modern…like modernist? I can do that. “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston…the only “modern” book I’ve recently read that was “The Bad Guys Won”...wait, um, some NTW book.

I tag anyone that feels dejected that they haven’t been tagged.

They stole our diaper bag!

We’ve been robbed. A few nights ago, someone broke into our car. They stole my purse (though were considerate enough to remove my ID and a few other cards beforehand) and they took the diaper bag, full of diapers, wipes, baby tylenol, a couple toys, and a dress. I’m mostly upset about the doll that was inside. It was a gift from Esther to Kyrie last Christmas. Of course, the bag itself is no small loss itself. It was a really nice Eddie Bauer bag…and now I’m using the crappy (forgive the language) Enfamil bag that the hospital gives you. Oh well. At least I have something to use. It could have been worse, I suppose. Maybe whoever took the diaper bag really needed supplies for their baby. I sure hope so…otherwise, it’s really quite annoying.

It’s weird how so many things have been going wrong, and yet I’m happier than I have been in a while. I guess I’m seeing my husband’s character through all the stuff he’s had go to through, and it’s making me realize what a good man I married. And of course, I’m hopeful that things’ll get better in the future. Oh, and having a seriously adorable baby doesn’t hurt, either. :)
