The mind of a childPosted by Rick on September 1st, 2006
My daughter has never seen me run. She has never seen my wife run. Yet she runs. She doesn’t just walk fast. If you’re after her, she will run. How does she know how to run, and how does she know she’s supposed to run? Babies’ minds are really amazing to me. I’ve always thought it would be impossible to teach a baby anything. How do you teach something to a child who knows nothing? The truth is that they learn things without you ever really teaching things to them. Babies are pretty cool.

I read this neat study a while ago about how they took several pairs of identical twins and at 9 months, 1 twin began taking daily stair climbing lessons and the other twin was shielded from even watching anyone go up the stairs. Lessons lasted 6 weeks. At 10.5 months (and then again at 12m) they both could climb the stairs just as well after a few minutes of being acclimated, lessons or not!
It is fascinating to watch children grow.

That little darling! She’s taking after her mama, walking and running so early! And is she climbing on top of the tables yet? (Rachel did that at 10 months- before she could even walk!) Yes- babies are amazing- God is amazing! Wish you were here!
