Casual Thursday

Kyrie and I happily proclaim this day as casual Thursday. We’re out and about in Monroe wearing sweat pants. Comfy and cozy on a slightly drizzly day.

I am also happy to announce that our AC hasn’t kicked on once in nearly two days. I do have the thermostat set a bit high (77), but the fact that it hasn’t gone above that is worthy of much thankfulness and joy.

Kyrie says “sss” for snake, “moo” for cow, “Ah! Ah! Ah!” for monkey, she makes a panting sound for puppy, and am I forgetting any, Rick? (He taught most of the animal noises to her.)

Hollie & I went shopping together the other day. It was fun to get out & visit and shopping is always fun. I got some things for Kyrie at The Children’s Place, and now I cannot wait for her birthday!

I just looked out the window and it’s definitely more than drizzling. Rain makes me feel happy.

Kyrie Update

Kyrie’s got 6 teeth now, as of this morning when her two lower lateral incisors popped their way through.

She’s getting to be so fun and affectionate, eager to run up and give me a hug when I ask her (provided she’s not engrossed in a toy or book at the time).

She likes to bounce when she hears a good tune, or better yet, twirl around in circles and then fall on her behind. She’s been doing this for a while but I kept forgetting to mention it.

She’s also starting to give me gifts (toys, half-chewed food, etc) voluntarily.

And her birthday is in 10 days! AAAAHHH!

Aww…..Look at the Baby Dragon!

Rachael Companik pointed out this awesome baby attire. Christmas gifts, anyone? They would match my AIM icon.

Random…

One of the fun things about the World Lit. class I am teaching is that I have had the opportunity to teach significant portions of the Scriptures. As I was prepping for my class tomorrow, I was reading over the parable of the “prodigal son” when I was reminded about the time I discovered Kenneth E. Bailey back as a freshman. Bailey notes that the parable has an unfinished chiasm, one that leads us to wonder, what is the ending to the story of the older brother? Now, we know what the ending of the story is, but I often wonder how it will play out in history. Right now we see wars and rumors of wars, and it’s hard to see God turning the elder brother to repentance. Just a random thought…

David Spears

Some of you may have met David Spears at CWSC. The Lord called him home yesterday after a long struggle. May your prayers be with the Spears family.

Creatures and Projects

So, I love our house, but it’s old and has some issues. There is a hole somewhere under our dishwasher that allows creatures to come in.

Creatures crawl in through the laundry room a lot.

Wasps come in through a hole in a window pane in my office. Kyrie picked up a dead wasp yesterday and took a stinger to the finger. It was pretty sad. Fortunately, she doesn’t seem to be allergic. I’ve actually seen her put a wasp in her mouth once before without being stung (yes, gross, I know), but this one got her.

Then, I went in to the living room in the middle of the night and a lizard scurried by my feet. We have a lizard “problem” (actually, I think they’re cute so it doesn’t bother me) every September and October. I find them sitting on the blinds in the dining room or in boxes in my office.

I had to laugh when I saw the new facebook group: “Sick of Crickets.” I swear we were cursed with a plague here in Monroe.

Added to that, our home alarm system has been going off randomly in the middle of the night for the past three days. Not fun. One of those times, I popped up really fast and got the worst cramp I’ve ever had. My legs have felt bruised for the last two days, which doesn’t exactly make me feel like running this afternoon. Maybe it will help work out the soreness though.

On the upside, I start getting normal paychecks again on the 29th, just in time for Kyrie’s birthday. Rachel kept me up late last night talking about balloons, streamers, and a butterfly cake. I can’t believe how old my little girl is.

The thunder and lightning were amazing last night. We always have awesome thunderstorms. Fortunately, we didn’t lose any power because of last night’s storm.

One more class today…

I’m also supposed to meet with my Emerging Scholar, Steffany. This is her:

Intelligent, huh? Okay, so that’s the worst possible picture I could find. I’m bored.

Her project, which I am mentoring, is titled, “Revelation As Literature.” Basically, we’re gonna compare good interpretation of symbols and structure with American fundamentalist interpretations of Revelation.

Sequence of events

1. Pope makes remark that Muslims are violent people.

2. Muslims are outraged and some start bombing churches.

3. Pope apologizes that his comments upset Muslim.

4. Muslims are outraged that Pope’s apology isn’t good enough. They threaten violence.

5. Pope considers canceling his trips to Muslim countries for fear of violence.

6. Pope apologizes for the comment, saying the quote he used was not his own views of Muslims.

7. Group of Muslims call the Pope and Christians “the worshipper(s) of the cross” saying “you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (killed by) the sword” (cnn article).

8. What were they fighting about again?

Groceries

I spent $72.07 on groceries today. They should last over a week. They also included non-food items such as dishwasher detergent, bathroom tissue, and soap. So do you think I did I good job or a bad job? I have no idea what the normal family of three spends on groceries.

All My Husband Does Is Criticize Me

I noticed that he also wasn’t happy because I forgot to include this picture in the picture post below:
