Which Does Jesus Find Funnier: You or Me Laughing At You?

The Internet Monk’s son has a great post about an experience he had with Reformed Christians making fun of a street preacher on his campus:

I looked over at both of my friends, one watched with a smirk on his face, the other one openly laughed a long with the crowd around us. I felt something as I watched the man desperately trying to reach anyone on campus, feeling in his heart that he was doing the only right thing to get Truth to students. I felt something as I watched my worship leader laugh at the man and join in on the public ridicule.

Feminism Oppresses Women

Posted by Rachel in Religion and Culture (Thursday October 12, 2006 at 4:58 pm)

I’m bored and I want a little controversy. Of course, I’ll probably post this and everyone will agree with me. That’d be just my luck.

I was thinking a while back about how feminists are so rabidly for equality and women’s rights, but at the same time, in their search for equality, a woman’s unique identity gets lost. For example, I know of a woman who was offended when she took her child to a playgroup because the instructor there commented on how one of the little girls might grow up to be a ballerina (I think this was because the little girl was very active). She thought it was sexist or something. Honestly, I don’t get that. Maybe she will grow up to be a ballerina, maybe she won’t. There wasn’t anything wrong with suggesting that a girl might do something that many girls choose to do. It’s not like she was saying that all women should be forced to be ballerinas.

Anyway, the mom replied, “Um, I don’t think so.” So that’s what feminism is? Making sure your daughter chooses any occupation except for the ones that are supposedly stereotypical of women? How are feminists showing that they’re proud of their sex when they’re really just trying to be more like men? It’s like they’re admitting that they can’t be “equal” without functioning as a man.

I’m proud to be a woman, honestly. There’s lots of things I can do that men can’t. I have strengths that men don’t have. But I also admit that I have weaknesses where men generally have strengths. I love my unique identity as a woman and am not ashamed to be girly and feminine.

And I have no problem with the idea of women in the workforce, but I also have no problem with the idea that men can handle that type of atmosphere, generally, a lot better.

Also, I can admit that a woman’s body is a thing of beauty without feeling like women are being objectified.

I just honestly don’t think that we should ignore or suppress the things that make us who we are.

Blogging about the weather again (I am a loser)

It’s 55 degrees outside! And I’m a cheapskate. Totally cheap. I am running around like a madwoman cleaning the house because it’ll keep me warm. But do I have the heat on? No. I’m a dork.

Preterism breakthrough

On another note, my emerging scholar had a breakthrough yesterday in gaining an understanding of preterism. I think it disturbed her…in a good way. I’d love your prayers on that too. It’s been a busy and an awesome semester.

Islam leads people to Christ

Interestingly enough, our study of Islam and the Koran has opened up a lot of doors to share my faith this week. Several students stayed after class to discuss the Koran and the Bible, Islam and the Christian faith, after class today. The Koran really speaks for itself. And I’m glad for that.

I could use your prayers as the imam will be returning on Tuesday.

Open Sesame

So I was reading in our room last night. And Kyrie comes flying in. Except the door was closed. The little stinker has figured out how to open doors by turning the knob. What the heck?
