Kyrie’s birthday pictures

This is how I decorate when I’m 7 months pregnant.

I had fun making her cake.

Kyrie had fun eating it!

With all her friends (Finn, the one facing the camera, had his 2nd birthday yesterday).

New shoes!

Wearing a new outfit and playing with her new stroller.

She had lots of fun playing with all her buddies and cried when they had to go home. I think it was a success!

Here’s what she’s doing right now (she laid the baby down next to her like that):

Mahmoud, SNL, and Flock of Seagulls

Okay, so SNL just did a hilarious short video, combining a rap with the 1982 hit “And I Ran (So Far Away)” by Flock of Seagulls and changing the lyrics to apply to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I’ll have to post the link as soon as it’s up online.

Update: Here’s the clip. So disturbing.

Ebay hacked

Apparently Ebay was hacked, and while Ebay is saying that no credit card info got out, the hacked posted the cc info with the verification codes.

Check out the forum discussion.

The media isn’t on this like it should be; I had to hear from a colleague who was reading a German news magazine.

I’m thankful…

...that I have the best OB in town. He is one of, like, 2 doctors who will actually do VBAC’s in Monroe. I must have sounded really dumb this past Monday at my appointment when I said, “VBAC’s are legal in Louisiana?” Um, yep! The reason that most OB’s here still do not do them is actually not a liability issue as much as it is one of convenience. One rule here for VBAC’s is that the overseeing OB needs to be present for the duration of the labor and delivery, and they’d really rather not spend their time that way.

He’s also been very easy-going about everything. I declined practically every routine labor intervention and infant procedure on my birth plan and he signed it willingly and cheerfully, adding, “This looks great.”

I may not be getting the homebirth that I dreamed of (I’m hoping I will for our third child, though), but at least I’ve got an OB who supports my birth philosophy and is willing to do what he can to make sure I have the closest thing to a homebirth in the hospital.

I really sometimes wonder if I would have ended up with a c-section if he had not been my doctor with Kyrie. He allowed me to push in the hospital for over 2 hours—and he knew that I’d pushed for 2 hours at home beforehand—but he never, ever even implied the possible need for a c-section. He made me believe I could do it when nurses had told me before I even went into labor that I wouldn’t be able to. (The day before I went into labor, a nurse told me I wouldn’t go into labor on my own, so I’d need to be induced, but I’d definitely end up with a c-section. And from the looks of it on the ultrasound, the baby’s head was huge.)

Coming from the crunchy state of Washington, I have a hard time with the medical mindset here. But it’s nice that even here, I can find an OB that I’m really quite happy with.

Jena 6 Timeline

The Jena Times has put up a timeline related to the incidents in Jena. It’s very interesting to see that the noose hanging and the beating of the white student are separated by three months in time. It also notes that several federal and state agencies had deemed the noose incidents were not racially motivated, but were related to a speech the previous day. That is not the impression I got from the media (surprise). It’s also interesting that the all white jury in Mychal Bell’s conviction was all white because no potential black jurors showed up for jury duty, though several were summoned. Bell had committed four previous violent crimes.

If you read it closely, it’s pretty incredible. I wonder if the people involved would deny the timeline. If the newspaper’s facts were wrong, that would be another lawsuit waiting, huh? I’m assuming these things are verified.

I heart Old Navy maternity

They had a 25% sale going on not long ago, and I got a pair of roll panel jeans from them. Let me tell ya, the roll panel is the one to go with! I love it! I hate full belly panels. They are evil. Anyway, they just came today and I couldn’t be happier with them. I officially have a pair of pants that fit me. Woohoo!

Speaking of pregnancy stuff, here’s a 31 week pic of me. By the look of my face, I’m pretty sure I get retarded hormones when I’m pregnant.

Miscellaneous & Bathtime photos

Apparently my sewing machine looked too plain, so Kyrie fixed that (don’t worry, it washed right off).

She was being really grumpy when I tried to take pictures of her in her new button-up shirt from Burlington (yay, we have one in Monroe now!).

Nothing cheers her up more than a bath. I think she wishes she could live in the water.

Talking

Kyrie’s sentences have been getting more complex lately. A couple weeks ago, when we went to Applebee’s, she pointed at the sign and said, “I see the letter A!” Just today, after finishing her first piece, she said, “I want more peanut butter bread, please.”

Wow. Not long ago, I was thrilled that she was putting two words together to form a phrase. It’s amazing how quickly they grow up.

Silly girl

The other day Kyrie was chatting away on my phone. I asked her who she was talking to and she replied, “Jesus!” She continued the conversation and giggled quite a bit. Apparently Jesus has quite the sense of humor. :)

If you’re interested in Fred Thompson…

A friend of mine is an archivist at the University of Tennessee. The UT archives are becoming pretty popular because they house the political letters of Fred Thompson. My friend sent this article on his work this morning. If you’re interested in Thompson, it’s an interesting read.
