Kyrie in her own bed

For an entire week, Kyrie’s been sleeping in her toddler bed, in her own room, all night long every night! I’m one thrilled mommy. I never expected this transition to be so easy. The first couple nights, getting her to fall asleep in her bed took a bit longer (maybe 20-30 minutes), but each night, she’s doing better and settling down to sleep quicker.

There was one night, a few nights ago (at about 4 am), where she got up and ran through our room. No crying or anything—she just darted right through our room out into the hallway. I had to get up and carry her back to her bed and she went straight back to sleep. It was almost as if she was sleepwalking (or running, more like it) and it was pretty humorous. But the good thing is that it took little to no effort to get her tucked back in, and she slept the rest of the night through. We haven’t had any incidents like that since. :)

Most mornings, she’ll sleep till 9 or later. She’s still asleep in her bed as I type this. I have to say I’m really glad I didn’t push this issue with her before she was ready. It’s just so much easier to wait until she’s ready—so much less heartache. I think we’re all very happy with the new sleeping situation. I missed her quite a lot the first night (more than she missed me, I’m sure) but I’ve gotten over it. ;) I’ll have a new little one to cuddle with in bed before too long.

Anyway, just wanted to share my happiness at this parenting success.

Just some things

We went to The Children’s Place today and spent too much money on coordinating Christmas outfits for Kyrie and Antonio. I cannot wait to see them wearing them and take lots of pictures. It should be truly adorable.

I feel bad for my OB —whatever his health concern is, I imagine it’s pretty serious to keep him out of work until at least January. We met with his replacement and he’s nice enough. He seemed to be “fine” with my birth plan, but certainly didn’t seem enthusiastic or overly supportive. I feel like it’s so late in the game to be searching around so I don’t know if I’ll just settle with him or what. We’ll see. I’m not sure if I’m willing to shop around for OB’s only to be discouraged when they look at my birth plan and tell me I’m crazy or something.

The good stuff: baby’s head down, on the left side, I’m measuring exactly on track, bp and weight are great, everything’s normal. If there was ever a textbook pregnancy, it’d be this one. So that’s something to be very thankful for.

Herbs + ……..

A new study says herbs are more effective on menstrual cramps than drugs are.

Spooky

Apparently, the number of med school department heads with financial ties to pharmacy companies is even higher than once thought. This new study by a Harvard med school researcher and Massachusetts General doctor Eric Campbell is eye-opening.

Well…

I’m just about ready to fly up to Spokane to have my baby there.

We just found out that my OB is on medical leave until January. He won’t be able to be my OB for this birth.

I’m majorly bummed.

Kyrie Cuteness

Kyrie says cute things all the time. Rachel and I were talking about some daily office readings today at the table when we hear “five…six…seven…eight…NINE!” We’ve never taught her numbers, so that was just hilarious. We thought we heard it incorrectly, so we prompted her, and she did it again.

Just now, Rachel said, “C’mon, let’s go to bed.” Kyrie, in a whiny voice, said, “No…I wanna watch Conan.” And when the commercial ended, “Conaaaan” She has been watching Conan since before she could walk, so I guess it just makes sense.

Pumpkin Patch

This was the third annual outing to the pumpkin patch for Kyrie. I think this was the first year that she really enjoyed it. She cried when it was time to leave (mostly because she had to leave the wagon behind, I think).

Which Office Character Are You?

I asked a colleague recently what Office character she thought I was most like. She thought for a couple of seconds and said, “Stanley,” and in a deep voice, said, “I don’t care.” I related this to Rachel, and she replied, “You are kinda like a Stanley,” and in Stanley’s voice, said, “I like Pretzel Day.”

Nerdy

I was looking over my transcript from graduate school today, and I was a total nerd. In addition to all of my required classes (and completing the degree in a year), I took extra classes in German, an upper level Applied Dance class, and Aerobics…just for fun.
