I decided to take pictures of my diaper stash today. I tried to get them all clean at the same time, but there are a couple BumGenius ones missing from the collection.
Here’s what I’ve got. I’ve got two Thirsties covers in red and blue, a bummis super snap cover and a prorap cover below that, and then a Dream-Eze AIO (All in one) diaper. I already have prefolds in the covers. Next to all those are my BumGenius One-Size pocket diapers. The pink ones are Kyrie’s (obviously) which she wears at nighttime. They’re on the biggest snap-setting, whereas Antonio’s are still on the smallest. On the bottom of the pic are some prefolds and cloth wipes (aka baby washcloths) that kinda got cut off because they’re not as cute/interesting.

They don’t quite all fit in this drawer…most of them do.

Here’s Antonio modeling the Dream-Eze AIO. I would like these diapers even more if they came in cuter colors.

And here I am at the park with Nio in the moby wrap, sleeping.

That’s lots of cloth diapers! Which kind is your favorite? Didn’t you talk about getting some G-diapers at one point?
I don’t have any of the ones you have. We use Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, and Fuzzi Buns. I prefer the fuzzi Buns. I also have a couple of newborn size kissaluvs. (They’re really cute, but I don’t quite get them.) They still fit on Jonah, and the medium fuzzibuns still fit Gabriel (when he decides to wet his pants).
I’d love to try all the different ones though!

Cute pictures. I’m looking forward to getting my own collection of cloth diapers…and I shouldn’t keep putting it off because I could really use the BumGenius right now for both David & Noelle at night. We keep having to buy pullups…which, each package is almost the price of a diaper and that lasts about a month. If I had gotten them back when I had first purposed to they would have paid for themselves by now. From what I’ve seen, BumGenius look like my favorites.
Oh, and I thought you didn’t go to that park anymore…just not without Rick?

Rachel, I’d love to try some FuzziBunz but the drawback of those is that they don’t come in One-Size. I like the OS diapers because you really get your money’s worth out of them. Yes, I used g-diapers when Antonio was a newborn; sadly they’re too small for him now! I loved those covers.
Rebekah, yeah, I just don’t go to the park without Rick — he was with me that time.
And someone decided to clean the park, so that was nice.
What’s your username on diaperswappers, btw? I thought you’d told me it was RebekahT but I couldn’t find a member listed under that name.
When we’re up, I’ll lend you a couple of BG diapers and you can test them out to see if they fit and work well for David and Noelle. I’ve pretty much never had overnight leaks with them unless Kyrie wets a LOT. And that problem can be fixed by just adding a prefold or something.

Oh, sorry Rachel, I forgot to answer which were my favorite. I think BumGenius have gotta be, for lots of reasons. Mostly that they have the best leakage protection of all the kinds I’ve tried. Antonio ALWAYS has a BG on for nighttime, or he’ll leak.

a few random thoughts…
are you primarily using cloth wipes now too?
you look so pretty.
glad the park has been cleaned up…thinking about that still grosses me out.

Thanks, Hollie! And yep, using cloth wipes exclusively actually. I found that they were just simpler because when I used disposable diapers, I’d put the wipes inside the diaper and roll it up and throw it away in one place. Kind of the same idea with the cloth wipes: I just put them in with the dirty diaper and throw it all in the laundry. Usually I just wet them with water and keep a few at a time in a small wipes container, but I’m thinking about making my own solution too — something specifically good for dry skin, since Nio has problems with eczema.

Your stash looks nice folded and put away. I used to be good about it, but I’ve kind of given up. Our clean ones just sort of sit in a laundry basket.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
My clean ones are sitting in a laundry basket too…that’s where they usually are. I’m not as good about using them as I ought to be.
Do you use them when you go out?
I haven’t ever thought to use baby wash rags for wipes, it makes sense though. It would be so easy to just throw them in with the diapers.
I’be been using the fuzzi buns mediums since Jonah was about 12 lbs, and he’s 21 lbs now. Gabriel, at 36 lbs, can still wear them too.
I need to try some OS and AIO. I really want to have a big assortment, but that doesn’t really make the CDing any cheaper.

We use them everywhere. The only time we use disposables is when we are vacationing at a place across the country or at a place that doesn’t have a washing machine.
You only need a maximum of 15 diapers per baby. A load of diaper laundry should contain no more than 30 diapers or things don’t get very clean and diapers wear out quicker from being thrashed against one another.

Yeah, I go out with cloth diapers, too. In fact, Antonio has never worn a disposable diaper. EVER. That will change in a few days when we drive up to Spokane. I’d rather not have dirty diapers in the trunk of our car. But as soon as we arrive, it’s back to cloth we go.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
That’s cool…and impressive that he’s never worn a disposable. I need to be way better about using cloth with Jonah. I have plenty of covers and way more pre-folds than I need. I haven’t used any inserts before. Are those easier or better do you think?
April 28th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I don’t know — the only inserts I have are for my pocket (BG) diapers — and they’re microfiber and I don’t think they’re supposed to be in direct contact to baby’s skin. Maybe there are some inserts that you can just lay in the cover, but I always have just used prefolds for that. There are also contoured or fitted diapers that can go under covers — I haven’t tried either of those but it seems like that’d be easy.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I have a few kissaluvs fitted diapers and like them. They’re pretty cute and it seems such a waste to use them under a cover:) The fuzzi buns are supposed to use an insert, but I don’t have any so I just put a smaller pre fold in them. It works pretty well. We’ll see how well though, tonight is the first time Jonah is sleeping in one!
April 28th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Oh, okay! I didn’t realize you used prefolds as the inserts in your FB. Yeah, I’ve used prefolds in my BG but I prefer the microfiber inserts — I think they’re more absorbant.

You are ridiculously beautiful.
And so is Nio. Love the nick name.

I’m just about ready to switch over to our cloth diaper stash…..but the thing that is holding me back is the washing stage. I don’t want to start using the diapers if I don’t know how to clean them. Especially since Vance is still doing infant bowel movements, how clean do you rinse out the diapers before you actually wash them? Do they get clean fully, or will there always be some staining with the bowel movements? Feel free to email me if you have any answers. We have a full set of Mother Ease if that helps in figuring out the washing cycle.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Moriah, with breastmilk poop, there’s no need to rinse beforehand — and none of my diapers are stained. If you let them sit for days without rinsing, you might get some staining, but I usually wash every other day and so far everything’s come out without a problem. Different people have different washing routines, but with poopy diapers, I’d wash with detergent on cold, then follow that up with a hot wash and a second rinse. That should do the trick. Wet diapers I simply wash on hot with a prewash and a second rinse.

The last picture almost seems like a portrait. Very well done whoever took it.

Rick took it.
