Don’t you love freedom of speech?

This video drives me nuts. An American girl was in South Ossetia visiting her aunt when Georgia started bombing South Ossetia. As she starts to tell her story, you can hear the producer telling the newscaster to cut them off. What cracks me up is when the newspaper tells the aunt there is an impending commercial break, the aunt replies, “I know you don’t want to hear that.”

I guess I don’t know enough about what’s going on to understand why they wouldn’t want that to be broadcast….ignorant me!

The basic gist is the US media is making it look like Russia is attacking Georgia out of nowhere when Georgia is attacking South Ossetia, and Russia is helping out the Ossetians.

    Ha. Stupid news.

I’m confused… why is Georgia attacking Ossetia? Like.. Georgia the STATE? Seems so random.

I did watch the video and it was excessively annoying to hear the guy interrupting her.

No…Georgia, the country, not the state.

It’s beginning to appear that Bush is hell-bent on starting a 2nd cold war before he leaves office, with a country that has sought our friendship since the days of Yeltzin. His arrogant and belligerent actions of placing a missile system within 120 miles of Russian borders is forcing Putin to react as strongly as this serious situation demands he should. I mean, how would we react if Russia was intent on shipping missiles to a country within 120 miles of our borders? Oh…Yeah. We’d set up a military blockade with the order to fire on sight if the Russians didn’t back down. I almost forgot.

This is just the opportunity DC has been waiting for. And all of this diplomatic hysteria and craziness is over an autonomous region with a whopping 70,000 residents.

There’s an interesting take on this video over at Freakonomics.

Also, the NYT piece has a different take on it. The Russian media, by these two articles, seems to have taken some liberties themselves with how to interpret this interview.
