I’m a slacker

I came up to the school to do my usual checking of mail, blogs, etc. and completely forgot about the pictures I have on the camera. One of these days I’ll get ‘em posted.

I saved a bunch of money grocery shopping by simply writing out a complete menu of all our meals and shopping accordingly. I was surprised to see what a difference it made! Now, if we can just stick to the plan…we’ll start saving money every month on food. That’s a very good thing.

Kyrie’s happy. She got Cheerios today (we had been out for a while and she was eating peas instead, which she likes, but you know). She’s currently tearing up Rick’s office so I’d better cut this short.

Update

I lost a huge post.

Suffice it to say, I am busy. I am hardly on here.

I am prepping for a new school year, working a second job, researching like crazy.

Nathan dropped by this week.

Our rector just joined the Network. Our church will be voting on doing the same soon. Rachel and I are heading a worship commission.

I just wanted to say to join Paperback Swap and use my email as your referral:rick_capezza@yahoo.com It’s great. I’ve gotten a dozen books in the last week.

Back home

Well, we’re back in Monroe. Just about everything has gone wrong since then. The worst thing (though it’s debatable considering our week) is that my Summer II class was cancelled on Friday due to low enrollment. Now, if they had cancelled it on Wednesday, perhaps we could have stayed another 5-6 weeks in Spokane. sigh We probably won’t be around much til Tuesday or Wednesday.

Back to the Symphony

I’m planning on returning to the Monroe Symphony Orchestra this fall. I enjoyed a full year of concerts from 2004-2005, but after Kyrie came (and she was born about 2 weeks before the 05-06 season), I decided that it’d be best to get settled into life with a baby and not worry about rehearsals and all that. But now that Kyrie is getting more independent and can definitely stay away from me for more than 2 hours without needing nursed, I feel ready to go back and play again. It’ll be a good time for Papa & Kyrie bonding, and for me to just get out once in a while. Plus, the extra money is nice. Rick is encouraging me to save up for a computer with my earnings, but I’m tempted to just let it sit in a savings account instead. I’m excited about having a reason to play my violin again & not let myself get all rusty.

I also kinda want to teach violin, even though I can only handle it in small amounts. And if I do it at all, I want to do it independently, where I can teach from my home and set my own hours, charge my own rate, etc. The problem is that not very many people in the Monroe area seem very interested in learning something like the violin, unless it’s fiddling, which I don’t teach. I think that if we ever were to end up back in Spokane, I could really get a good thing going (I actually had several students and taught two classes on top of that before I was married). Oh, and lastly, if I do decide to accept students again, I want to keep ‘em younger, so our attention spans match a little better. I seriously can’t teach more than a 30 minute lesson.

Just random thoughts for the day.

Domesticity

Rick & I spend too much money on food. I don’t think we really overspend on most things in general, but we love our food. I’m attempting to be more frugal and a good, domestic wife, and I know that my sister plans meals an entire month in advance so that her grocery shopping can be very specific, minimalizing the amount of wasted food in the fridge. I actually enjoy cooking and making up new recipes (I’ve come up with some yummy new ideas recently), so I should turn it into a real, active hobby that’ll save us some money in the process.

I know that lentil soup may not sound great to a lot of people, but I think it’s really yummy, and OH SO CHEAP, and easy to make! I made it for the first time this last week and Rick and I really enjoyed it. The recipe made two full dinners and a couple lunches/snacks as well.

I also made up this pasta thingy (I know pasta isn’t always the healthiest of foods, but it is cheap) with italian herb chicken & fresh diced tomatoes & chopped onion. It’s really good, and I want to try it with shrimp & a garlic butter sauce sometime soon.

My latest attempt was making fried chicken sandwiches. They were so good! I’m sure they weren’t healthy, but I guess that’s kinda low on my list of priorities. I know. I’m bad. But I just breaded some thawed, skinless boneless chicken breasts in flour, salt & pepper, and fried them up in about 1/2 a cup of butter. I put them on sandwich buns with lettuce & mayo. Better than a fast food chicken sandwich, and Rick highly approved of it. :)

I’m currently working on a month’s worth of dinner ideas. Any suggestions?

I have no idea how this works

My blog is worth $11,290.80.
How much is your blog worth?

Hmmph. And Yay. At the same time.

We have a gas leak. We’ve had it for a while. It just took us a long time to call. Apparently it’s in one of the pipes under the house. I’m glad we’re finally getting this taken care of. We will hopefully have a plumber come by today…I hope I hope I hope. The Atmos guy said this should really lower our bill. So that’s where “yay” comes in. :)

Volatile

I had noticed my 414 (H) had been going down a few dollars a day for the past two weeks which is unusual because it’s usually going up. I checked it today, and it had increased 13% overnight. I have to wonder what the heck is going on in the market. Anything big happen?
